Rosewater Recipes From garden to table.
There are numerous Rosewater Recipes for you to use with your home made rosewater. Now you have it made, and sealed and refrigerated (remember it will not last long outside of refrigeration without a preservative.) or someone has given you a bottle of rosewater as a gift, try some cooking ideas. There are many rosewater recipes available but I will share three from family friends.
Crackle Cookies These are referred to as 'wafers' by my German friend. 1 cup of salted butter 1 egg 1 tablespoon of light cream 1 cup of sugar 300 grams of all purpose flour (sifted) pinch of salt 1 teaspoon of baking powder 1 tablespoon of rosewater
Lay out two baking sheets with baking parchment. Mix the ingredients in a bowl to form a dough. (processor on low would do this) Roll the dough into a sausage shape, wrap in wax paper and chill in the refrigerator until firm for slicing. Preheat the oven at 375 degrees Slice the chilled "sausage" very thinly and place on the baking sheets. Bake for ten minutes, or until brown Remove and shake a light coating of suger on each one. Serve with Rose Petal Jelly or Ice Cream
Persian Scones The cinnamon in these is optional and may overpower the subtle rosewater taste. Dried rose petals are also used. 2 1/4 cups of all purpose flour 2 teaspoons of sugar 2 teaspoons of baking powder 1/2 teaspoon of cinnamon 1/2 a teaspoon of bicarbonate of soda 3/4 teaspoon of salt 4 tablespoons of unsalted butter 1/2 cup of dried raisins 1 cup of creme 1 and 1/2 tablespoon of rosewater 1 cup of dried, finely shredded rose petals (edible variety!)
Preheat the oven to 220 degrees Mix flour, sugar, salt, baking powder, baking soda and cinnamon Fold in the butter and then the raisins Combine the creme and rosewater and carefully fold in the rose petals Combine this with the other mixture Stir until forming a soft dough Scoop tablespoons of the mixture and drop onto a baking tray Bake for 10 to 15 minutes or until they are risen and brown Serve with butter and Rose Petal Jelly
Rosewater Icing and Rosewater Peaches I said three recipes, but this is actually two small ones put together. Rosewater peaches make a great dessert by the way!
Icing: Whisk together 1 cup of icing sugar, 1 tablespoon of rose petal jelly and 2 teaspoons of rosewater Adjust rosewater if icing is thick Drizzle over Crackle Cookies or Scones
Rosewater Peaches: Peel and remove the stone from a peach and cut it in half. Sprinkle with sugar (or icing!) and rosewater and then refrigerate Sprinkle with cinnamon and add a fresh mint leaf before serving Great with mint ice-cream
There are many recipes using rosewater. Almond Cakes, Syrups, Cookies and even Rice Puddings. Try some rosewater recipes for yourself. Experiment with the ingredients and amounts, adapting for taste, and enjoy the fruits of your garden.
