Lethal Beauty - 5 Tips for Beginner Rose Garden Growers
By Thomas Fyrd

Pink Rose Bloom and Buds

As opposed to what you may think about the effort it takes to plant and care for roses, it is actually quite easy to care for them. Some types of roses, such as roses planted for exhibition, are difficult to work with, but most rose varieties will provide you with beautiful scenery, pleasant smells, and enjoyment.

Fertilizing Roses

Although cultivating roses is rather easy, you still need to be sure to care for them correctly. You will need to fertilize the roses, for example, to keep pests away and the help the plant be strong in fighting against diseases. The five tips below will help beginners cultivate a successful rose garden.

Different Varieties Different Needs

Learn about the different varieties of roses, including what kind of soil and climate they thrive in. A good way to learn this information is to ask an expert gardener, or your local nursery. To avoid a lot of frustration, choose roses that naturally do well in the climate and conditions that you live in. This is a very important step for beginning gardeners.

Give The Rose Time

To give the plant time to adjust to their new habits, and to allow them to store up energy to bloom longer and better later in the year, plant the roses in the fall or early spring. This is the time of year that the plants are dormant, and it is good to use dormant plants when you start your garden. An exception to this is for container roses or mini roses.

Sunlight

Five to Six hours of sunlight per day is important for your roses, so you should plant them in a location where they will receive that. Some roses can deal with shade, but the majority do best in the sun. Having the plants situated where they will receive morning sun will help prevent mildew and blackspot, since the dew from the night will dry more quickly.

Rich Soil

Your roses will need nutrients, and the best way to provide this is by using well-rotted manure or compost in the planting holes of the rose plants. Adding a handful or so of bone meal to the compost or manure helps to provide a rich, fertile environment that will nourish and encourage a stronger root system to establish itself better in the soil.

After planting fertilizer can be added to help and assist the plant in providing a soil full of rich nutrients. Organic fertilizers like Canola meal and kelp are great fertilizers for a rose garden fertilizers. You'll increase your success with roses when you provide them with a rich environment to flourish and produce growth and flowers.

Adequate Water and Moisture

Finally, it is important to remember to water your roses thoroughly when first planting them in the ground. Water and light are the most important "foods" you can provide roses. A rich growing environment full of nutrients without proper water or moisture will never deliver the best results.

Water combined with proper light a strong rich nutrient base mixed in creates a lethal combination for beautiful roses.
